I always struggled with Apex Legends on Linux. It didn't pre-load shaders, which led to a very jittery experience for the first round or two. Even after that you still get jitters here and there when it needs to load something new. It wasn't worth doing every time there was a new update.

I prefer that feature massively. Being on hold sucks, you can't fully commit to doing another task because you need to listen out for the fuzzy elevator music to switch to a human voice. Even worse when the fuzzy music switches to a recorded human voice every 30 seconds to remind you you're still on hold.

Having a call back means I can forget about it and go on with my day until they call me.

While I 100% agree with this...

...I wonder if there's a meaningful way to prevent companies from saying they're going to do this, and then just "losing" 80% of the callbacks they're supposed to give. Or giving them at 1AM (hey, it's 10:30AM in Mumbai where the off-hours call center is!).

Waiting for a callback is unquestionably way better than waiting on hold, but I would still need to make sure I'm in a position to be taking that call and actually handling whatever it requires at any given time during the waiting period, so things like going shopping or being in a place with poor cell signal (like my office!) aren't good options—and what happens if I'm not available the moment they call? Can they just say "oh, well, couldn't reach customer" and force me to start the process again?

I notice every time somebody gets a new phone because it says "Your safety number with x has changed" but whenever I've spoken about it with friends, they have no idea what it means. An additional sentence could help here, such as "You might want to double check that you're really talking to x" or the classic "It's possible someone is doing something nasty". Although I understand that this would definitely scare a lot of people, maybe even push them into thinking Signal is insecure.

I too hate the DJ. Not sure why they're trying to push it, the existing system of "daily mix" and "discover weekly" playlists work well in my opinion.

I found it bizarre that "weather-independence" was one of the least important metrics. I commuted by bike for years and it's miserable in wind and rain. The numbers of fellow cyclists varied massively depending on the weather.

Bike ≠ e-bike. My e-bike makes commuting in teeming rain kind of fun - with appropriate rain gear only my hands and face get wet, and there's very little physical effort. Trying to do the same ride on a pushbike is indeed miserable.

I'm about as enthusiastic a bike user as you'll find but I've never found 'rain kind of fun', especially not on longer distances (>40 km, my 'regular' road trip is 64K there and back for 128 in total). The road gets slippery, other people (in cars) pay less attention and have less visibility, you get soaked and if you're not careful you can get undercooled even on relatively warm days. Cold weather: no problem, wet weather: if I can avoid it I will.

I'm talking about a 10 minute 4km commute, not a multi-hour trek (which doesn't sound fun to me in any weather). I really do find it fun, and I really do only get my hands and face wet. Gumboots, rain pants, rain jacket, backpack cover, helmet cover: no way to get soaked or even damp.

In Perth Western Australia my commute is about 25km. and at best a little over an hour to ride by bike down the bike paths along side the freeway.

today it was 25 deg C at 6am and over 32 deg C at 5pm when I would have to ride home.

I'll ride it every now and again, but honestly its too much to do on a regular basis.

I suppose the argument wouldn't be about how their revenue is distributed, rather that they should be charging more for their subscription (which is, in my opinion, insanely cheap). They're able to keep it that cheap because they're underpaying artists.

I think gaslighting will soon be redefined as being slightly dishonest or unhelpful in any situation.

You could say this about anything. My shampoo bottle is an advertisement to buy the next bottle. My car is an advertisement for other people to buy the same car.
