2046: The planetary AI brags it spends more natural resources on machines than it spends on humans.

2126: AI brags that it's reached 100% efficiency in Earth utilization after it's eliminated all organic life.

Other AIs are laughing at this flex as their Dyson sphere projects are already set into motion.

Is it a coincidence that the diameter of Earth orbit is 1000 light seconds, or that our Moon perfectly eclipses Sun? The Pyramid is a comparatively modest example.

Technology has caused this. Once a society becomes highly developed, it fuses itself with technology that eventually replaces human culture with efficiency, productivity and similar crap.

With LLMs, materialists have got a silicone idol to worship. They believe that they know everything about this idol because they've created it, and at the same time they believe that LLMs have a secret sauce that makes it intelligent. Looking at how they are trying to extract intelligence from it reminds me of alchemists of the past who tried to extract gold from lead.

AI is turning into a religion for materialists.

Technocracy, and the doctrine of materialism, sees humans as machines.

I'd characterize it as cybernetic, as observant to & attending to inputs and outputs of systems. And interested in improving the results, by observing how these systems function.

Your characterization feels like one of those seeing-only-evil's that I characterize as an anti-willpower.

Or perhaps not even that. We're just fuel for the machines.

Curing cancer isn't profitable. But even if someone tries to mix AI and biotech, the result will be a dangerous medical slop.

If you were a machine, your highest basis would be electrons and related EM fields: it would be the finest level of matter you are made of, the highest level where your consciousness could reside. The idea behind buddhism and other methods is that humans have a higher basis, sometimes reaching extreme heights. In order to gain enlightenment at those levels, there is buddhism. In this thought framework, our science studies a very coarse level of molecular matter, so it's of no help for gaining enlightenment. Similarly, buddhism isn't concerned with the level of matter that's studied by science, so it's of no help for scientific endeavors. For example, buddhism talks a lot about karma. At a certain level, karma is a form of matter with very concrete properties, but to our science it's an unreachable abstraction that you may as well call fiction.

The value is negative to that worker, apparently.

Society on the whole, but this isn’t the first time I have automated away jobs, I have been doing it for years long before we had LLMs every where. In my opinion it is the only way to sustainably grow a company. Identify your biggest man hour costs and find a way to automate away those tasks.

Society as a whole is those workers. Capital, efficiency, GDP and similar things may be sky high, but the actual people will suffer.

I wouldn't dismiss the GP's point so quickly. Right now people are being trained to think of AI as something you can chat with. What stops an adversarial entity to identify users of interest and swap the chatbot on the other end with a human agent whose objective is to extract information or guide the user?

Interesting. Though it might make more sense to have them just guide the conversation and save the transcripts I suppose.
