Exactly! When things cannot be measured we are left with perception only.

"As you move up the ladder you are constantly trading control for impact."

Brilliantly articulated!!

Agreed!

I would prefer it that way too but whiteboards aren't getting replaced with take-home assignments. Instead they're a step towards the whiteboard stage. The whole process is just getting sillier compared to other professions.

+1000 This is how a proper professional does it.

I always have turned down homework assignments. It just feels insulting and disrespectful. Even whiteboard crap is useless but I'm OK with it considering they've paid for my travel expenses etc.

If you think about it ... homework assignments are a classic case of B's looking for C's. A's wouldn't need to resort to such silliness. They can identify (as an interviewer) and exhibit (as an A interviewee) with just an intelligent conversation.

I agree with you 100%. Sure, there are 10x programmers just like there are 10x lawyers, politicians, analysts, doctors, nurses, teachers, administrators etc. They are good because A. they like what they do (10K hours rule and all that ...) and B. their personality/intelligence is in-line with their profession of choice. You cannot teach or mentor someone to become 10x in their field. Fortunately, not everyone needs such ground breaking abilities. Just a few are good enough. The rest of us will do just fine by showing up, doing good work, collecting our pay-check and go live a good life (defined by the individual).

Well said! If this doesn't convey the message I don't know what will.

Most of the "Founders" are nothing but facades that just want to make money in the Tech world. They don't give a damn about technology or improving the world.
